What are microplastics?
They are a product of the degradation of plastic waste, plastic particles smaller than 5mm to sizes so small that they are imperceptible.
They have been detected in commercial table salt and some studies claim that 90% of bottled water and 83% of faucet water contain plastic particles
According to the WWF, it has been calculated that a person could ingest approximately 5 grams of plastic per week.

In Colombia, according to a study carried out by the Center for Hydraulic and Hydrotechnical Research of the Technological University of Panama, the highest concentrations of microplastics are found in the Caribbean, mainly in Cartagena, Santa Marta and Barranquilla.
Ostin Garcés from the Institute of Marine and Coastal Research in Colombia, pointed out that on the Caribbean coast you can find up to:
